ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
UNDERGRADUATE SPECIALIST IN MATHEMATICS
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for the 2008-2009 academic year for a position as Undergraduate Specialist in Mathematics at the associate professor rank. This position is a tenure-track position with tenure negotiable at time of hire.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics; working closely with faculty who teach lower-division courses; serving as a resource for our cadre of instructors; assessing our current curricular offerings and suggesting changes and improvements; seeking grant money for curricular innovations; leading the department's efforts in improving student success in mathematics; and maintaining a program of professional or scholarly activity. The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Successful candidates must have: an earned doctorate in mathematics, or an earned doctorate in statistics or mathematics education together with an earned master's degree in mathematics; equivalent of 6 or more years of teaching and research experience at the college or university level. Preference will be given to candidates with substantial evidence of high quality teaching in the college mathematics setting; ability to teach a wide variety of lower division courses in the mathematical sciences; knowledge of current issues in teaching undergraduate mathematics; substantial academic scholarship dealing with current issues in teaching undergraduate mathematics; evidence of strong communication skills; leadership experience; evidence of research productivity; and a commitment to support the multicultural needs of Northern Arizona University and the surrounding area.
